Symposium on Automation & Robotics 2025

4 - 5 June 2025: Pune

In a lively celebration of technological progress, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) organised the 8th edition of its Symposium on Automation & Robotics on 4 and 5 June 2025 at Auto Cluster Exhibition Centre, Pune. Themed “Trends & Insights for Tomorrow: Shaping the Future,” the two-day event combined innovation, inspiration, and reflection equally.

Over 250 delegates attended this symposium, while more than 350 visitors visited the exhibition on both days. This included OEMs, MSMEs, technology providers, academics, and policy stakeholders, who attended the symposium, participated in technical sessions, observed live demonstrations, exchanged insights, and explored potential strategic partnerships.

The inaugural ceremony was honoured by the chief guest Mr. Ashwin Shastri, Chief Transformation Officer at Tata Autocomp, along with keynote speakers Mr. Yuki Kita, Chief Executive Officer of FANUC India, Dr. Asim Tewari, Professor (HAG) at IIT-Bombay, and Mr. Rajesh Mandlik, Chairman of the Regional Council West, IMTMA. Mr. Jibak Dasgupta, Director General & CEO of IMTMA, was present at the inauguration. While Dr. Asim Tewari’s presentation focused on “Transformative effect of Digital twin through Artificial Intelligence”, Mr. Yuki Kita offered insights on “Robotization of India in comparison with the global scenario”. Mr. Ashwin Shastri concluded with his topic on “Data the Heart of AI: Road map for MSMEs for complete digitisation”.

“The Symposium acts as an essential platform for sharing ideas and monitoring the latest trends shaping our industry,” said Mr. Dasgupta in his opening remarks. “While countries like Germany and Japan have labour productivity levels nearing 90%, India still hovers around 70%. To close this gap, we must adopt advanced technologies and invest in upskilling our workforce. Events like these are crucial in accelerating the adoption of Industry 4.0 and digitalisation across manufacturing sectors.”

The symposium began with Mr. Ashim Sharma, Senior Partner & Group Head Business at Nomura Research Institute, delivering a presentation on “Automation in Manufacturing - Current State & Future Outlook”, providing a strategic perspective on India’s developing automation landscape.

Over the course of two days, some of the key sessions covered Smart, Scalable, Modular, and scalable robotic solutions, AI, ML, IoT in manufacturing, robotics, digital manufacturing, collaborative robots (cobots), and the use of digital imaging, among others.

The symposium also included an exhibition area to showcase advanced automation and robotics technologies. There was a particular emphasis on MSME-friendly solutions that are simple to implement and cost-effective.

The eighth edition of Symposium on Automation & Robotics successfully established itself as a thought leadership platform and practical guide for Indian manufacturing. From facilitating the adoption of technologies and cost-effective automation to offering strategic insights and collaborative knowledge sharing, the symposium highlighted IMTMA’s steadfast dedication to empowering the manufacturing industry.
