IMTMA has played a leading role in the development of the machine tool industry, which is the backbone for industrial growth in India. This national cause has been the guiding force behind IMTMA and its membership.
IMTMA is committed to support its members to increase competitiveness, enhance efficiency, improve productivity, and ensure growth. It does so with the aim to assist the members to become cost-effective, technology-driven, and ever responsive to customers’ changing needs. At the same time, IMTMA has supported the user industries with better and more modern technology of machine tools to provide them with competitive manufacturing solutions.
Recognized as the sole voice of the Indian machine tool industry, IMTMA with close to 500 members represents 90% of the organized machine tool and allied equipment manufacturers.
Formed in 1946, the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers' Association IMTMA was started when 19 machine tool manufacturers joined hands.
Over a period of time, the association has grown in size and strength and has emerged as the voice of the machine tool industry. Started in the Godrej Campus in Vikhroli, Mumbai, the Association later shifted its office to New Delhi and then moved to its own premises within the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre in Bengaluru.
In 1969, IMTMA hosted the flagship event ‘IMTEX’ – a leading B2B Machine tool exhibition in South and South East Asia, which is now hosted at the BIEC. The exhibition has grown in size and today is the largest machine tool exhibition in South and South East Asia.
IMTMA also conducts short term ‘Seminars & Workshops,’ organises ‘Technology Mission’ to international Trade fairs for CEOs and voices the ‘demands of the industry’ to the government.
The Association also conducts training programs throughout the year, with skill development as its motto. Through various long term and short term training programs the Association bridges the gap between the academics and the industry requirement and upskill the working professionals for the benefit of the machine tool industry.
IMTMA follows very strict Code of Conduct and has a Vigil Mechanism Policy in place a per to the government policies and set itself high standards, concerning both.
IMTMA conducts activities with the aim of developing the machine tool industry in India and for the benefit of the members.
This includes
With the Make In India campaign, there is an increasing demand for the skilled labour and the pressure will be on the companies to upgrade the existing workforce. To meet this requirement of skill development in the manufacturing and machine tool industry, IMTMA has set up technology centres in Bengaluru, Pune, and Gurugram.
IMTMA has set up Productivity Institute, Finishing School and Design Institute with the aim of filling up the technological gaps. IMTMA has delivered 13344 man-days of training during 2015-16 through 150 short term workshops and long term courses covering Design, Productivity, Quality, Automation, Maintenance and Technology domains.
Along with the regular training programmes IMTMA also conducts seminars periodically at various centres across the country. The association also undertakes customised training programmes for the companies, designed on specific requirements.
The Technology Centre also regularly conducts ASME programmes, programmes recognised by the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, etc.
IMTMA regularly conducts seminars and summits to keep the industry abreast with the latest technology, developments and best practices in the machine tool industry. The seminars bring in the best in the industry together, which helps in defining the future of the machine tool industry.
The flagship events are as follows…
The efforts of Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) from its inception up to 1969 culminated in the All India Machine Tool Exhibition, which will go on to become its flagship IMTEX, the largest machine tool and manufacturing technology exhibition in South East Asia. The successful editions of IMTEX demanded an international quality venue not just for the live display of machines but for every other aspect associated with it. This led to the setting up of IMTMA-Naoroji Pirojsha Godrej International Exhibition & Conference Complex, popularly known as Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) in 2007 at Bengaluru.
From 2007 onwards, IMTMA has been organizing IMTEX and numerous other trade fairs and corporate events at BIEC. Once a combined show, IMTEX was split into two, with the first exhibition focusing on metal cutting technologies being held in 2009, and the very next year (2010), for the first exhibition on metal forming technologies. IMTMA, every odd and even year, organizes IMTEX and IMTEX FORMING with Tooltech and Digital Manufacturing as concurrent shows.
In its efforts to bring technologies to the doorsteps of various manufacturing industries, IMTMA organizes regional machine tool expos. Expos are held in Delhi (Delhi Machine Tool Expo) and Pune (Pune Machine Tool Expo). Factory Equipment Expo is held as a concurrent exhibition in these cities. Also, IMTMA organizes the MTX-Connect series of exhibitions to help the machine tool industry present its manufacturing solutions in industrial belts of various regions of India.
IMTMA compiles and publishes various documents related to Association, Technology, Market, Business and other latest industry reports from time to time. Some publications are free to view, some are restricted to members and a few are available against payment. Non members who wish to get copies of publications which are restricted to members may contact Mr. Rakesh at rakesh@imtma.in
