Polymer composites are being considered for numerous thermal applications because of their inherent benefits, such as light weight, corrosion resistance, and reduced cost. The microstructural, thermal, and mechanical properties of a compression molded vacuum bagging, casted, powdered metallurgical and 3D printed composite with high thermal conductivity are examined using multiple characterization techniques.

Metal Matrix Composites (MMC) offers superior performance characteristics when compared to alloys. However, manufacturing parts using MMC is a big challenge for materials science and mechanical engineers. Traditional liquid metallurgy techniques have limitations, and researchers working in this area have developed processes such as thixoforming and squeeze casting to produce MMC parts. Even in these processes there are limitations in terms of percentage of particulate reinforcement and materials composition. Powder metallurgy (PM) processes offer the required manufacturing flexibility for manufacturing parts using MMC. PM processes can be adopted for any combination of materials, with different shapes and sizes of powder particles as precursors, the ratio of matrix to reinforcement phase can be varied depending on the application, powder materials with different densities and sintering temperatures can be produced. Thus PM processes are finding increasing acceptance for MMCs in the manufacturing industry. Pressure-less sintering and hot pressing are two widely used PM processes for MMCs. These processes are energy intensive with long process cycle time. The vacuum assisted plasma densification (VAPPD) system presented in this paper is energy efficient with significantly reduced cycle time. The process uses a combination of pulsed and steady DC with reversing polarity, in combination with 10-2 mbar vacuum pressure inside the processing chamber to produce high density, high purity, fine grained metal matrix composite parts. MMC powders are mixed using ball mill and converted into 'green compacts' using metal moulds at high pressure. The green compacts are then placed in graphite moulds and current is passed through the product, resulting in heating rate of 500 deg.C per minute or more, simultaneously vacuum pressure 10-2 mbar is applied inside the processing chamber and uniaxial pressure of upto 100 MPa is applied on the product using the hydraulic system, resulting in near net shaped MMC parts. Duplex Stainless Steel (DSS)-2205 is hard to machine material due to its inherent properties, but more applications in severe working conditions; hence, investigating the effect of nano-cutting fluids and machining parameters is essential. The paper is focused on investigating the effect of aluminium oxide (Al 2 O 3) and copper oxide (CuO) nano-cutting fluids under the Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) technique in turning DSS-2205. Nano-cutting fluids were prepared in different volume concentrations (Conc.) of 0.3%, 0.5%, and 0.7% of nanoparticles with emulsified base fluid (1:20 concentration with DI water). The experiments were conducted based on Face-Centered Composite Design (CCF) in varying nanoparticle concentrations, speed, feed, and Depth of Cut (DOC). Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were considered to examine the significant machining parameters for cutting force, temperature, and surface roughness. The experimental results revealed that Al 2 O 3 nanofluid gives better results by minimising cutting force and improving surface roughness, but CuO nanofluid reduces the cutting temperature. The multi-response optimisation is carried out to minimise the responses through Desirability Function Analysis (DFA) for both fluids. The optimum parameters for Al 2 O 3 nanofluid are volume conc. of particles (0.7%), speed (64.74 m/min), feed (0.051 mm/rev) and DOC (0.4 mm), and for CuO nanofluid volume Conc. of particles (0.634%), speed (59.92 m/min), feed (0.053 mm/ rev) and DOC (0.4 mm).
