IMTMA was established in 1946 with around 20 machine tool manufacturers coming together to form the association.  Since then, the association has grown in size to the current level of over 496 members.  Of these, about 400 are engaged in manufacturing units in machine tools and related items/components as well as subsystems to the machine tool manufacturers. The membership of IMTMA is constantly increasing due the various advantages and value added services it offers to the members.
