IMTMA Technology Centre
IMTMA is deeply committed to support its membership to increase competitiveness, enhance efficiency, improve productivity and ensure growth and prosperity. Powered by this ethos, on 22 January 2009, IMTMA Technology Institute was formally inaugurated (concurrently with IMTEX 2009 and Toltech 2009) at the hands of two well-known industry dignitaries - Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Minister of State for Industry, Government of India and Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal, Chairman, Hero Corporate Service Limited.
The aim of this arm of the Technology Centre is to provide technology inputs to machine tool builders in India. This is done through tie ups and establishment of linkages between academic and research institutions. The Government of India has several initiatives, which could be usefully tapped by Indian machine tool builders to modernize and upgrade their technology so that they can be on the cutting-edge of technological development and not fall by the wayside as the world moves on.
IMTMA Technology centre has four broad areas of operation:
- Technology Initiatives
- Design Institute
- Productivity Institute
- Training and mega events
-
Technology Initiatives
The Technology Division helps our companies with inputs on R&D and technology development through industry-academia-R&D interaction, funding avenues from DSIR, DST, PAC etc., linkage with foreign R&D institutions such as the Fraunhofer Institutes etc. The establishment of an Advanced Machine Tool Testing Facility at CMTI through an industry-government partnership has been approved and has been taken up for implementation. This will help the industry to test and upgrade its machines.
-
Design Institute
The objective of the Design Institute of the Technology Centre is to strengthen the design capability of the Indian machine tool builders. This is achieved through training programmes that are conducted for designers through short and medium term courses.
-
Productivity Institute
Machine tools are used by machine tool manufacturers as well as the user industry. Often competitiveness is lost due to poor productivity. This is primarily due to insufficient training and more so in the SME sector. IMTMA conducts several training programmes on various technical subjects and organises major events like the Productivity Summit, International Metal Cutting and Metal Forming seminars, etc. These seminars, workshops, and training programmes are covered under the Productivity Institute of the Technology Centre.
-
Training and mega events
IMTMA Technology Centre conducts various training courses for member companies and also for user industry. The courses provide both theoretical and practical knowledge and are conducted by specialized trainers along with audio-visual presentations, shop floor training and plant visits. The training centre has been set up through a close cooperation of various manufacturers, both Indian and foreign, with IMTMA. Supporting all these activities is a modern, state-of-the-art training centre equipped with CNC machines, control systems, tooling and tool setting equipment and a host of peripherals of international manufacture. A digital classroom equipped with a networked, computer based learning system enables class room inputs to be imparted using the latest techniques. The entire facility is digitally networked.
