- Core Advisory Group for Research and Development in the Machine
Tools Sector (C-MAT)
As a result
of IMTMA's interaction with the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government
of India (PSA) and academic institutions like IISc, IITM, VIT, PSGCT and
others the PSA has constituted a Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) for
R&D in the Machine Tool Sector under the Chairmanship of Prof. P.
Radhakrishnan of VIT with Mr. H. R. Gupta, the then Vice President, IMTMA
as co-chairman. The PAC has representation from academia, industry, R&D
institutions and the Government.
PAC was reconstituted in June 2009 by the PSA's office. To view

was renamed as C-MAT (Core Advisory Group for Research and Development
in Machine Tools Sector) in 2010
2010, the Technology Roadmap for Machine Tools was drafted by the PAC
(now CMAT) and adopted by the committee as guiding document for the
development of machine tool technology in India.

the mandate given to the CMAT, the main role of the Core Advisory Group
is to foster academia-R&D-Industry co operation in taking up R&D
projects in the machine tool sector. The CMAT receives R&D
proposals jointly from academia-R&D-Industry and after a due process
of evaluation by experts, approves select projects for funding support.
of CMAT Projects (Completed)
Thermal Analysis of Machine tool
- (PSG + VIT + Ace Designers)
Prediction of Residual Life in Bearings
- (IITD - MGTL)
Development of Next Generation Precision
Grinders (IITM - Industry)
List of CMAT Projects under
Design and fabrication of 3 Roller
Flow Forming Machine - (IITB - ARDE - EMTL)
Development of Alternate materials
for improving dynamic response and damping properties of machine tool
structures - (PSGCT - Industry)
for industry to respond with its technology requirements through CMAT
Academic and R&D Institutions,
jointly with machine tool industry are invited to submit R&D proposals
in various areas of machine tools and related technologies to the CMAT
for approval and part funding.
the development projects should be ones requiring new technologydevelopment containing
some research content. The project should be common interest projects
of pre competitive R& D to be considered by CMAT. The Technology
Roadmap (Page 22) gives the broad areas for such R&D. Others could
be also considered.
